Commitment.

Small, slow batch, ethical production, married with thoughtful design and quality pieces are the non-negotiables behind each Girl on Sunday pyjama set.

Girl on Sunday doesn't claim to be sustainable because no clothing brand is; and there's always room for improvement, but we are committed to mitigating Girl on Sunday's impact on the environment. All PJ sets are designed in-house, and pattern drafting, sampling and manufacturing happens here in Melbourne, Australia, ensuring transparency along with ethical production. If we have to wonder about the safety and basic human rights behind who is producing our PJ sets, then Girl on Sunday would not be here today.

Girl on Sunday is committed to environmental responsibility and ethical production by remaining small, slow and accountable. Just

Small Quantities & Limited Drops

Girl on Sunday PJ sets are manufactured in Melbourne in small runs. Recutting of styles are based on demand and customer requests. Our aim is that each set that finds its new home will also be a forever home; and a brand fundamental is to avoid overproduction and unnecessary industry waste. And it is for these reasons there will rarely be seasonal sales.

Each step of the production process: research and design, pattern making, sampling, cutting and sewing, happens right here in Melbourne within a 10km radius, neutralising logistical emissions.

Careful production planning goes a long way in crafting each set to stand the test of time, and each set is crafted with the highest attention to detail, in turn reflecting our commitment to ethical and responsible clothing. By limiting production, we can focus on creating special and timeless garments.

Fabrics

Where possible, *deadstock fabrics (fabrics leftover from design houses' oversupply and saved from landfill) are used across each collection. However, due to limited local options (quantities being one particular issue), some fabrics have been sourced overseas including Japan and the UK. Deadstock fabrics come in a mixture of fibres although our aim will be to produce the majority of each collection utilising cotton moving forward. Polyester is avoided unless it is a deadstock fabric, however to date, polyester is not being used. Fabrics that are not deadstock utilise natural fibres and meet OEKO-TEX® certification (a globally-recognised certification system that tests textiles for harmful substances, ensuring they are safe for consumers and the environment).

*A note on deadstock: There is question mark hanging over the 'sustainability' and manufacturing practices of deadstock fabrics. For example design houses deliberately producing oversupply for profit. As more information becomes available, deadstock usage will be reassessed and we may move away from its usage. Deadstock is very hard to trace in terms of origin so there may be better practices that do not buy into greenwashing practices as we learn and grow.

Packaging

Manufacturing in Melbourne allows for completely plastic-free packaging when transporting - driven straight to the studio where orders are packed in 100% recyclable (post-consumer waste) mailers and plant-based certified home-compostable garment bags. Swing tags & notes are printed on 100% recycled paper and digitally printed using water-based, organic pigmented ink.

All are Australian-made and produced here in Melbourne.
